I used to be a very private person, most likely because I did not know myself that well, then I discovered the internet. Now, without too much effort I can not only find new friends but be offered friendships and have decisions made for me that otherwise could not have happened. Things, such as things I want, but especially things I need that I didn’t even realise I needed. I am still a private person, it’s just harder now.
This installation is a result of my current research into the copy which in part is investigating digital doppelganger. “Personal Information Agent” and “Digital Doppelganger” are terms used by on-line marketing and business analysis consulting firms to describe the collection, collations and distribution of internet users’ activities.
All internet users have a ghostly twin, a digital doppelganger composed of numerous sources such as browser cookies. These ‘digital crumbs’, as the consulting firms explain, make your interactions easier and more individually relevant. Your personal information is important to this work of art.
